Experience shows 1-1 lessons are the most effective. A quiet space that is JUST for the learner. A space to be brave to face the things that have been difficult up to now and a space to be willing to try new ways.
Study skills lessons lend themselves to very small groups ( 3 max) if preferred.
A specialist dyslexia lesson ( 60 mins ) ensures that teaching enables learning through sequential, cumulative and structured lessons that build from learner strengths, exploring new learning through the use of multisensory activities.
Specialist dyslexia teacher lessons do not require a diagnosis of dyslexia
Sessions might include games/ stories/ creative activities / sequencing/ recalling/ quizzes/assistive tech tools like online mind maps or voice to text software.
We use small step targets to focus opportunities to fill learning gaps over time.
We start with assessment and questionnaires so we can build an accurate picture of starting points.
Then each half termly block is designed to meet each learner's unique needs, often focusing on literacy, numeracy( if required) .
We check in at the end of every double block ( every term) to review progress, make new plans and confirm bookings.
For our dyslexic thinkers we use ideas from the book This is Dyslexia by Kate Griggs to help learners understand where their strengths are BECAUSE they are dyslexic.
We reframe the narrative. We seek to harness strengths and dispel the view that you overcome challenges through resilience. We forge understanding that you are strong because you think differently.

When you learn new things and get good at them it feels great!
There's often talk of resilience but we know that for many learners their resilience is often very high - think of how much resilience it takes to keep doing something at school when you find it hard.
We teach skills.
ps- We don't worry about 'behaviour' . We know that success ( and finding the right strategies) sorts that out!

Using multi-sensory approaches ( fancy talk for messy, smelly, noisy and fun activities ) we help learners to embed their learning through systematically structured sessions which over time embed new learning, through retrieving and recalling and applying knowledge.
